Jan 26 (Reuters) - Mattel Inc has won the license to make toys based on Walt Disney Co's "Frozen" franchise and princess lineup, grabbing the properties back from rival Hasbro Inc, the Wall Street Journal reported https://on.wsj.com/3H3x3fP on Wednesday, citing the Barbie toymaker's executives.
Mattel declined to comment, while Hasbro did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
A deal would reunite the popular Disney characters with Mattel, with the WSJ report saying Mattel will start selling new Disney toys in 2023.
Shares in Mattel rose about 8%, while those of Hasbro fell around 1% in premarket trading.
Hasbro had in 2016 edged out Mattel for a license to make dolls based on Disney's popular princesses such as Cinderella and Snow White.
