China reports 221 new coronavirus cases in mainland on Jan 11 vs 192 a day earlier

BEIJING, Jan 12 (Reuters) - China reported 221 new confirmed coronavirus cases for Jan. 11, up from 192 a day earlier, its health authority said on Wednesday.

Of the new infections, 166 were locally transmitted, according to a statement by the National Health Commission, compared with 110 a day earlier.

The new locally transmitted cases were in Henan, Tianjin, Shaanxi and Guangdong.

China reported 32 new asymptomatic cases, which it classifies separately from confirmed cases, lower than 50 infections a day earlier.

There were no new deaths, leaving the death toll at 4,636.
