CARE International’s Brief ‘Time of Loss’ provides a human face to the multiple social, economic, and personal losses the Syrian displaced are facing as part of their transition into exile, and more broadly as displaced. As the largest and ever growing appeal in UN history is launched, CARE urges donor governments and the UN to continue ongoing efforts to embrace a longer term approach to the Syria regional crisis, working towards durable solutions for the Syrian displaced. The specific needs of women and girls, men and boys, from both refugees and host communities should be urgently addressed, while growing protection risks must be mitigated. Host governments need increased support to expand public sector capacity so to enable both refugees and host communities to meet their basic rights. After almost three years since the conflict started, CARE renews its appeal for peace. We call on all parties to increase financial, operational and diplomatic efforts to relieve the suffering of affected Syrians, especially those who remain out of the reach of humanitarian aid. May this be as a proof that humanity, not only still exists, but can be made more tangible for those who continue to suffer the effects of protracted conflict.
